After the OT was made (ep 4 - 6) Lucas was pretty burned out from the making of the trilogy and the messy divorce from his wife Marcie so he really didn't keep an eye on any books or comics that came out. Suffice to say that the stuff that did come out was mostly complete garbage. During this time we also got the "X-mas Special" and the "Ewok Movie". Those things pretty much turned most fans off so nothing really happened after that. By 1990 Lucas was over his "funk" with SW and given all the advances in FX, sound and CGI effects started to get the "itch" to do more with the SW story. The statement by "John Crisp":
"Timmothy Zaghn started it with "The Thrawn Trilogy" in 91 or so he had to get Lucas's permisison to continue the story"
Is almost laughable. First the author was Timothy Zahn and he didn't get Lucas's permission to write a new trilogy of books ... Lucas actually went to Zahn and asked him if he would be interested in writing a continuation of the story told in the SW movies. The main reason Lucas did this was to find out if the SW fan base was still out there. He went to Zahn because at the time he was, and pretty much still is, one of the top 5 SciFi writers out there. Thus was the SW saga "reborn". The 3 books by Zahn have become know as "The Thrawn Trilogy". The titles are "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", %26amp; "The Last Command". To this day "The Last Command" remains one of only a very few books that I've read in one sitting ... I just couldn't put it down. SW fans sent all 3 of these books to the top of the NYT list only days after their release ... finally, more of the story of SW that didn't sound like it was written by idiots as the stuff after 1983 did. These books were so loved by fans that Lucas was giving very serious thought to making them into the fabled ep 7 - 9. One phone call to Harrison Ford killed that idea because Ford told him he couldn't reprise his role as Han Solo because he was too busy with other projects at the time. Despite what "Sir Viever" says there are NOT 3 more stories that are supposed to be made in movies and NONE of the story lines in the books come from "story outlines that George Lucas had left of from college". It is safe to say that the Thrawn Trilogy almost became that fabled last trilogy but it didn't ... Lucas HAS, however, given it the tag of "Official Continuation of the Story of Star Wars" ... that's as close as we will ever get to a third trilogy.
After the debacle that SW was between 83 %26amp; 90 when George didn't keep an eye on what was put out under the SW name he now keeps an iron fist wrapped around the entire story of SW. No book is published without his express OK. The video games are NOT canon to the story. The only thing about them that is canon is the place in the time line in which they are set ... nothing more. Lucas has a "pool" of the "elite" SciFi writers that he allows to write in the Star Wars EU ... a few of them are:
Alan Dean Foster, James Luceno, Matthew Stover, Michael Stackpole, Aaron Allston, Kevin J. Anderson, Troy Denning, Walter Jon Williams, Sean Williams, Shane Dix, Greg Keyes, RA Salvatore, Elaine Cunningham, Kathy Tyers, Roger MacBride Allen, Michael P. Kube-McDowell, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Barbara Hambly, Nancy Richardson, Rebecca Moesta, Dave Wolverton, Steve Perry, Karen Traviss ... to name a few. If you know your SciFi writers we are talking about the "big time" with these writers.
May The Force Be With You ...
.Who made up the Star Wars before and after the six movies time line?
I have many of the books of the EU in MS Reader, MS Word, %26amp; .pdf format. If you're interested I'd be more than happy to email them to you.

Who made up the Star Wars before and after the six movies time line?It is a conglomeration of authors, video games, and artists all who have to submit their input to Lucasfilms for approval. George Lucas has final say on what gets published as an "Official Lucas" product, including all books and art. A lot of the prequel books are pretty good, and so are the clone wars booksWho made up the Star Wars before and after the six movies time line? There's still a third trilogy of stories that are supposed to follow the middle three. I doubt it they'll ever be completed it they haven't started working on them by now. All the basic stories come from story outlines that George Lucas had left of from college.Who made up the Star Wars before and after the six movies time line?Timmothy Zaghn started it with "The Thrawn Trilogy" in 91 or so
