I recently discovered that I am of Jewish decent and want to commemorate it by buying one of these pendants. Although, I have heard that it insults some Jews and heard that it has ties to something called Messianic. Could someone please explain Messianic and the Star with Cross. Please. Thank You in advance. What is the meaning of a Star of David and Cross that overlap?Messianic Jew. A Jew who has accepted Jesus as messiah and personal saviour. What is the meaning of a Star of David and Cross that overlap?
Jews are offended by messianics because messianics say they are both Jewish and believers in Jesus at the same time, even though messianics are really Christian. Messianic Judaism was started by Christians who wanted to trick Jews into converting to Christianity. What is the meaning of a Star of David and Cross that overlap?answer: Most Jews will immediately associate you with 'messianics' and not be amused. 'messianics' falsely claim to be Jewish when they are not. They have Christians beliefs and take Jesus/Yeshua and twist Jewish holy days and rituals and dishonor BOTH religions.
Like the first answer - most people think they are Jews that have come to believe in Jesus - that's false. The overwhelming majority were NEVER Jewish. 2nd - any Jew that becomes a Christian is no longer a Jew. To return to Judaism, they would have to renounce their Christian beliefs and repent (regardless whether they called their divine savior Jesus or Yeshua). A Jew that converts to another religion is an apostate; no longer part of the Jewish community - not a good thing.
Mixing Jewish symbols with Christian ones would equate yourself with them. What is the meaning of a Star of David and Cross that overlap?
Don't do it. It will offend both religions. What is the meaning of a Star of David and Cross that overlap? If you are a Christian, imagine seeing a crucifix with Vishnu, Odin, Dionysus, or Amen-Ra hanging upon it rather than Jesus..or a moon and crescent of Islam put on top of the Cross.
For a believing Jew, a Star of David (Magen David) with a cross inside or superimposed upon it is likewise inappropriate .
The Cross of Christianity symbolizes their worship of Jesus as Divine, or for some, a sacrificed human who was a medium for atonement. Both the concept of a human being Divine or human sacrifice are directly forbidden by commandment from God to the Jewish people in the Torah, so this is why such a symbol is offensive to any believing Jew.
It is nice that you are pleased to learn of your Jewish ancestry and while it's nice you wish to want to "commemorate it", it is very good you asked about this before you acted on your first idea since that is definitely not something that would be seen as a way to HONOR Jewish ancestry!
You would indeed offend the very people you wish to honor in commemoration.
I respect your right to be Christian and remain so..I do not insult your right to wear your Cross as a symbol of your faith. Please recognize that because the Judaism of your Jewish ancestors is so completely contradictory in core doctrine to your Christian faith that it is not possible to combine them.
Learning all you can about the history of your Jewish ancestors is the best way to commemorate them IMHO.
Judaism is a messianic religion, but it does not resemble the concept of the New Testaments redefined role at all.
http://www.whatjewsbelieve.org/ is a good place to help you learn the difference.
"Messianic Judaism" is a name used by evangelical New Testament adherents who Hebraisize their dogma and wish to claim Jewish identity to replace Judaism. It isn't Judaism at all.
Shalom y'all!
