It looks too bright to be a star. Is it a satellite, space station, shuttle landing? But if its not moving and is in the western sky after sunset, for a few hours, then its the planet Venus (its been that bright and even brighter in that part of the evening sky since January).

You don't say where you see the bright light in relationship to other object in the sky but the answer could be one of several things:

yes, a satellite, although you would be able to notice it moving rather rapidly over a period of time.

Venus (which is quite bright and yellowish in color)

Mars (bright and reddish in color)

It is most likely the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS has huge solar arrays that collect solar energy and most of the light gets reflected back to Earth. You can tell if it is the ISS if it is the only "star" in the sky, or if it is the brightest.
I think Jupiter is in the sky these days. Venus just went behind the moon (possibly within the last couple days). The international space station was visible tonight at 10:00 pm (Indiana) but it went across the sky in four minutes. A planet does not move in one night like that. I saw a very bright "star" tonight early in the evening and it's still there. I'm pretty sure it's Jupiter.
