Is there ever a case where a binary star system could quickly become a unary star system?

Could one of the stars get flung out of orbit? Pulled out by another star system? The only way I have seen this possible is if a white dwarf blasts through one of the suns at hypersonic speed. If that is the only possible way how far away would a planet have to be to not be destroyed? Is there ever a case where a binary star system could quickly become a unary star system?Your "Pulled out by another star system" is answer enough. Some binary star systems are fragile and susceptible to a massive neighbor passing by and disrupting the orbit.

There is some debate still on our nearest neighbor, proxima Centauri, as to whether it is part of the alpha Centauri system.
